John Wiernicki of Galt's Liberty Ranch high school wipes away tears after signing his letter of intent to go play college football at Air Force.
GALT, CA - Liberty Ranch running back John Wiernicki may be one of the most decorated players in school history, but on this day, he was reduced to tears.
Wiernicki was one of dozens of players across the Sac-Joaquin Section to sign a National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day, inking his name to play college football at the Air Force Academy.

"I just loved it there. I can't wait to get there this Summer," said Wiernicki. "They're recruiting me as a fullback right now. They're telling me I'm going to be that 3rd and 1 guy that can punch the ball in when it's needed."
Wiernicki, who fought back tears throughout his afternoon signing in front of a large gathering of teammates, classmates and family, said the day was special for many reasons.
"Today is also my parents 20th wedding anniversary," he told the crowd, before giving each of his parents a hug and thanking them for their support through the years.
The Wiernicki family also relied on modern technology during the signing.
Wiernicki's older sister is attending college in Colorado, so friends used a mobile phone and Skype to allow her to watch the entire assembly and share the day with her younger brother.
