RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - The brother of a Rutgers University student who killed himself days after his roommate used a webcam to see him kiss another man says the spying helped drive his brother to suicide.
James Clementi says his brother Tyler may have been depressed for other reasons, but that the webcam was "the straw that broke the camel's back."
Tyler Clementi was 18 when he killed himself in September 2010 in a death that attracted national attention.
His brother and parents spoke about their experiences Thursday on NBC's "Rock Center" in their first interview since before the trial of Tyler Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi (dah-ROON' RAH'-vee), who was convicted in March of bias intimidation and other charges. He recently completed a 20-day jail term.
