STOCKTON, CA - One person was killed, four others were wounded and authorities were searching for multiple suspects after gunfire erupted on a Stockton street Friday night, Stockton police officials said.

Investigators were working to piece together what led to the drive-by shooting on the 1500 block of East Julian St. in Stockton around 9:30 p.m. Friday, Stockton police spokesman Pete Smith said.

Smith said it appeared that several gunmen opened fire on a garage area of the home, striking five people. A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, although none of the injuries were expected to be life-threatening.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released and detectives were working to compile descriptions of the gunmen and their vehicle.

Smith said investigators were looking into a motive for the shootings, which were not believed to be gang-related.
