SACRAMENTO- Crashes remain the number one cause of death for teens and this is the most dangerous time of year for teen drivers between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

So could peers make more of an impact getting the safe driving message across? Kellie Goodwin with the California Youth Safety Council thinks so. She sends tweets and helps organize programs like "Every 15 Minutes" through the Friday Night Live Partnership program.

While teens are aware of drinking and driving and programs have made an impact, distracted driving including texting remains a big issue.

TAKE THE PLEDGE NOT TO TEXT AND DRIVE

This fall, 700 teens will attend a statewide safe driving summit that focuses on texting among other things. To recognize the CA Safety Council's efforts and the Friday Night Live program the Allstate Foundation just issued a $230,000 check to be used for grants to further safe driving and to cover costs for some local teens to attend the summit.
