STOCKTON, CA - San Joaquin County Sheriff's investigators continue to search for, but have not located, a second abandoned well that could contain human remains.

The search is happening near the town of Linden; convicted killer Wes Shermantine wrote from death row that authorities can locate the remains of murder victims nearby.

Shermantine was convicted of four murders, while his partner Loren Herzog went to prison for three. Shermantine is finally providing locations of victims after receiving word he'll be paid more than $30,000 by Sacramento bounty hunter Leonard Padilla.

Searches last week near San Andreas produced two sets of remains believed to be Cyndi Vanderheiden and Chevelle Wheeler. Then, for the past several days, authorities searched in San Joaquin County where Shermantine said Herzog dumped his many victims.

About a 1,000 bone fragments, clothing and jewelry were located in one abandoned well, but a second well that could also contain victims hasn't been located.

The sheriff's office is getting assistance from the Department of Justice and a Santa Clara County cadaver dog team.

Search crews will continue to work over the weekend.

Remains already found are at the morgue in San Joaquin County. Identification will come much later through DNA testing done at the Department of Justice Crime Lab.
