SACRAMENTO - An elderly man was shot and another individual pistol whipped during a break-in at a home in Sacramento on Tuesday.

Sergeant Tim Wetzel of the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept. said two men broke into the home on Canyon Woods Ct. around 4 a.m., shot the elderly man in the hip and pistol whipped the other person. The suspected robbers then fled without taking anything.

According to Wetzel, the home contained about 100 marijuana plants, and the numerous individuals living in the home all had medical marijuana cards. Wetzel said the number of plants divided by the number of people with medical cards fell within legal limits.

Deputies believed the two suspected intruders, only described as black men, broke into the home to steal marijuana, said Wetzel.
