NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA - A man was shot while running away from a sheriff's deputy and California Highway Patrol officer in North Highlands Wednesday evening.
The shooting took place on the 3700 block of Myrtle Avenue, said Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos.
The 21-year-old man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
The deputy and CHP officer were making contact with the man when he took off running, according to Ramos. At some point he turned toward his pursuers and reached for a gun, the officers reported. The CHP officer shot him.
Neither officer was hurt.
Authorities said the man is a validated gang member.
The shooting was reported at 6:10 p.m.
