MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - If you told a soccer fan the Barclay's Premier League trophy would be heading to Manchester at the end of the season, they'd simply assume the silverware was headed back to its usual resting place in the Manchester United trophy room. But following a dominating performance over their rivals, it's Manchester City who is making room on the shelf for a bit of new silverware.
City beat United in what many believed to be the clash for the crown on Monday, with Vincent Kompany nodding in the lone goal and game winner off a corner kick in first-half stoppage time at the Etihad Stadium.
City looked the stronger side throughout, dominating possession and shutting down United's generally potent attack the entire game.
With two games remaining for both Manchester sides, each team sits on 83 points, but Man. City swept the season series with United and boasts an eight-goal advantage in the differential column over the Red Devils.
The Sky Blues visit fourth-place Newcastle United and hosts relegation battlers Queens Park Rangers to finish the season.
Manchester United hosts Welsh upstarts Swansea and travels to Sunderland in their last two matches.
Barring a Man Utd. thrashing of either team and a collapse by City in the final two games, the Premier League title appears destined for a new dwelling in Manchester.
