Police arrest suspected car thief after pursuit

MODESTO, CA - The Modesto Police Department arrests the suspect that led officers on a lengthy vehicle pursuit on Saturday morning.

Jeremy Montemarrano, of Modesto, was arrested after fleeing from officers in a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Friday from the city of Ceres.

Montemarrano was believed to be armed with a handgun.

Modesto Police Officers spotted the stolen car, a Volkswagen Jetta, at the Days Inn on McHenry Avenue around 7:45 am. A short time later, Montemarrano got into the car and drove away. When the officers tried to stop him, he fled in the vehicle.

Officer pursued the stolen car and was assisted by officers from the California Highway Patrol as the vehicle fled south on Highway 99.

The pursuit ended near the exit at Bradbury Road in Turlock when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled down the embankment.

Montemarrano was not injured and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officer later located a loaded handgun inside the car along with stolen property.

Montemarrano was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on numerous charges including auto theft, car jacking, possession of stolen property, weapons charges, and a parole hold.
